International Airlines Group (IAG) has introduced a new travel insurance product, Wanda by Avios, which offers flexible coverage, quick compensation for flight delays, and protection for Avios points.
The Wanda Plus annual policy and Premier single-trip cover offer a refund of up to 70% if travellers cancel their flight up to 48 hours before departure, even if the cancellation is due to a change of mind.
In addition, passengers will receive a £25 payout per person if their flight is delayed for more than two hours. Wanda by Avios also includes Avios Protect®, which reinstates up to 500,000 Avios points per person if travel plans change for an insured reason. These points can be used for flights, hotels, and car rentals booked through the British Airways Club.
Wanda Plus also includes a 10GB global data eSIM, ClassPass credits for new customers, and entry into a monthly prize draw for a chance to win up to one million Avios. However, these benefits are not available with Basic or Standard single-trip cover.
The insurance was launched by IAG’s loyalty division in partnership with digital insurance provider Open. Veronica Vicars, Chief Growth Officer at IAG Loyalty, commented, “This isn’t just insurance — it’s smarter, more flexible protection built for modern travel. Wanda by Avios sets a new benchmark for both Avios collectors and travellers seeking cover that works harder for them.”
IAG, the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, and the Avios currency, reported a record €4.4 billion in annual operating profits for 2024.
