The Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI) has reported an 8.8% increase in the number of insured individuals in the life insurance sector during the first half of 2025.
According to Budi Tampubolon, Chairman of the AAJI Board of Directors, the total number of insured individuals reached 123.7 million in the period, up from 113.68 million in the same period of 2024. He shared this information at a press conference held in Central Jakarta.
However, the growth rate in the first half of 2025 was more modest compared to the same period in 2024, when the number of insured individuals grew by 27.9% year-on-year (YoY).
Budi attributed this year’s growth to the collective efforts of stakeholders in the insurance sector, particularly marketers, who have been instrumental in addressing the public’s protection needs. He emphasized the importance of marketers in driving the sector’s growth and meeting the demand for insurance.
“The increase in the insured population is a positive indicator for the life insurance industry, signaling strong momentum as we move into the latter half of the year,” Budi stated. He also highlighted the sector’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public trust through continuous transformation in services and products.
Looking at the breakdown of the figures, the growth was predominantly driven by the group life insurance segment. The number of insured under group policies reached 102.07 million in the first half of 2025, reflecting a 7.4% increase from 95.07 million in the same period of 2024. This group segment accounted for 82.51% of the total insured population.
In contrast, the individual life insurance segment saw a 16.2% increase, with the number of insured rising to 21.63 million in 2025 from 18.61 million in the first half of 2024. This segment made up 17.49% of the total insured.
