For those looking at a Ford F-150, there is good news. The popular pickup truck remains one of the cheapest vehicles in its class to insure.
This finding comes from a new study by Mercury Insurance. The company just released its list of the cheapest trucks and SUVs to insure for 2025. The Ford F-150 is featured on this list.
It is joined by several other models. These include the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Maverick, Toyota Tacoma, and Ram 1500.
Insurance rates are based on several factors. These include the cost of parts, the vehicle’s safety record, and the frequency of claims.
This is not the first time the F-150 has earned this distinction. It also appeared on a similar list last year from Insurify. That study found the F-150 was 11% cheaper to insure than the national average.
The annual full-coverage premium for an F-150 was $2,069. The U.S. average was $2,329.
The new Mercury data also included electric vehicles. The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning ranked among the top EVs with the lowest insurance costs.
A Mercury Insurance executive commented on the findings.
“We understand that consumers are looking to save money,” said Chong Gao, Director of Product Management R&D. “The good news is that there’s a lot of variety in this year’s list for different budgets and lifestyles.”
Gao added that choosing a utility vehicle doesn’t have to be expensive. Picking a model with lower insurance costs helps keep the total cost of ownership down.
