In a major step toward universal healthcare, the Punjab Cabinet has approved a new scheme providing cashless medical treatment coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family.
The benefits will be available at government hospitals as well as empanelled private hospitals across the state.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who led the Cabinet meeting, called the decision historic. “With this initiative, Punjab becomes the first state to offer cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh for every family,” he said.
A spokesperson from the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that the scheme, named ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna,’ is set to launch officially on October 2.
Chief Minister Mann first announced the scheme on July 8.
